Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week

Up until this point in the 2022 Buffalo Bills preseason, all eyes have been on Tre’Davious White’s return. However, there have been other injuries accumulating under the radar. Some ailments have carried over from the off-season, while others occurred as recently as the preseason opener.

Tre remains on the PUP list. He made headlines when he displayed his progress earlier in camp with several running and jumping drills. More buzz was created when ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated he should be back to practice “sooner than later”, on August 10th.

Also has limitations with single leg push off and landing. See him lean into his left leg more on take off and landing, also looking at the ground longer for the left pic.twitter.com/scBuKdvoYz

Although he looks to be in fantastic overall shape, a trained eye can see his limitations. Tre debuted his jumping and running in late July, but he appeared to have compensations.

A week later, in early August, he displayed improved landing mechanics. This is encouraging for the Bills, but the jury is still out if he will be able to get activated before the season.

This looks great 👏🏻 📈 https://t.co/IdSCHdu3XI

Based on his presentation and usual recovery timelines, I think that Tre starts the season on the PUP list. This would keep him out for the first four weeks, and allow a 21 day practice window before he will need to be activated. The most conservative scenario would have him return to practice and not be activated until the Week 8 Sunday Night matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Buffalo.

Hey @ThighDoctor, will #JordanPoyer have his arm brace on the entire season? https://t.co/Ky99pARvo8

Poyer had a scary injury in practice on August 2nd. He appears to be trending well, however, he is still wearing a brace for activities. He will likely remain limited throughout the preseason and return near 100% for Week 1.

Spencer has been limited most of camp and preseason thus far. It has since been reported he underwent back surgery in the off-season. The date of the surgery is unknown. What we do know is that he injured his back over the bye week last season.

#Bills HC Sean McDermott said rookie RT Spencer Brown's back injury flared up when he was training at the beginning of the week. He's going to miss practice on Friday — his 3rd straight — but they haven't ruled him out of the game just yet. "We're holding out hope right now."

I suggested he might have herniated a disc in his back when this news first circulated. Also, I mentioned that he might need to have surgery to fix it in the off-season. Fortunately, the return to play is high for lineman coming back from a lumbar discectomy (1). However, this may affect his longevity, as he has a long history of knee injuries as well.

Doyle still in a boot few days later. Scooter not a good sign, possible fracture ? Best case rough lateral ankle sprain. Middle ground = mild mid foot/high ankle https://t.co/Zuo7cdPuNN

Doyle sustained a foot injury in the first Buffalo Bills preseason game. There is no video of the injury, but he has been seen in a walking boot and a rolling scooter. There is no timeline or details on his injury, so guessing is a crapshoot. Unfortunately, a boot and a scooter are not a great sign. This can be either week-to-week or up to a month recovery. Factoring in Spencer Brown’s off-season surgery, and now Doyle’s foot injury, the signing of RT David Quessenberry was fantastic.

I’d be weary of the dreaded Jones fracture for Stevenson (Sammy Watkins injury ) https://t.co/2yukjF719Z pic.twitter.com/LgQHWj84tY

Stevenson went down in practice on August 2nd as well. He had a foot injury and subsequent surgery. The fear here should be a Jones Fracture. The return to play would be around three months, which will likely end his season based on Buffalo’s WR depth at this time.

Sounds like Settle’s calf not too serious. Most players return around 3 weeks if they strained it. He might just be sore. Easy 💯 for season, but team should be cautious next two weeks not to aggravate it https://t.co/VgPp0ibXjs

Settle made several explosive plays for the Bills in the first preseason game. However, he landed on the sidelines in practice this week with calf injury. These can be tricky to recover from, but based on reports that he is doing on-field drills, it is likely very minor. This should be viewed as a one to two week injury max.

As per @SalSports on WGR , Micah Hyde landed on hip coming down from an INT attempt. Anonymous source says he hit the griddy on the sidelines after being carted off Likely a ‘hip pointer’/ bruise, might be sore days-week @BfloFanatics #billsmafia pic.twitter.com/3euQv0dsLv

Micah Hyde bumped his hip on July 29th in practice. He returned to practice a week later, but has recently had some rest days. There should be no concern here for Buffalo Bills fans, as it is likely just maintenance.
