Saints quarterback Jameis Winston‘s recovery from last year’s torn ACL has gone well enough that he was on the field during OTAs this spring and the knee is feeling well enough that Winston was going without some protective equipment in a recent workout.

Winston posted a video to Instagram that shows him doing throwing drills without a brace on his left knee.

Winston wore the brace throughout OTAs and minicamp while indicating that the plan is for him to wear it throughout the 2022 season. That plan may remain in place with the break from the brace for that throwing session simply being a sign that his knee continues to feel well ahead of the start of training camp.

That would likely mean that Winston is on course to start the season opener against the Falcons on September 11 regardless of what he might be wearing on his knee when that moment arrives

The braces get hot and sweaty and uncomfortable when you are active, so you take them off for short periods and do what you can that doesn’t hurt. This doesn’t mean that he is ready to go, only that certain movements are possible and it feels good to be free of the hardware even for a little bit. You can’t read too much into this.

He should wear the brace for the rest of his career, especially since it is his front leg when throwing. That said, if he is going to wear the brace he should wear it all the time so that it isnt bothersome or annoying to him in games.

Yes! Pulling for him to shut the critics up, let’s go Jameis!

Winston will Winston and throw a ton of ints. The Saints aren’t going anywhere with him as QB.

Yeah….but he was mostly throwing to the defense

Jameis went 5-2 under Sean Payton’s tutelage. If he regresses this year, it will only increase the demand for Payton in Dallas (and elsewhere)

Let me correct the headline:

Video shows Jamies Winston throwing interceptions without a brace on his left knee.

Come on Taysom, you can still be QB!

These Winston INT jokes are just lazy. He was 5-2 with 14 TDs and 3 INTs for 1,170 yards before one of his former teammates pulled him down from behind and hurt him, and teh team still won the game with the 3rd string QB.
