Germany's hopes of playing in next summer's UEFA Nations League finals were ended with defeat to Hungary in Leipzig.

Germany are unbeaten in the current Nations League campaign, recording a record-breaking win over Italy and drawing their other three. If they beat Hungary and England in their final group game three days later, Hansi Flick's side are guaranteed to top the section and reach the four-nation finals. Müller has featured in all five fixtures so far, and was one of seven Bayern Munich players in the original 24-man squad. The youngest of the bunch at 18, Jamal Musiala is among the substitutes after top scoring for Bayern so far this season with four Bundesliga goals. Joshua Kimmich starts in midfield, but Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus had to withdraw after suffering an ankle ligament injury in the Revierderby. Skipper Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka and Julian Brandt also had to pull out, with Oliver Baumann and Maximilian Arnold given late call-ups as a result. One of 16 Bundesliga-based players left in the squad, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Jonas Hofmann - who hit a brace against RB Leipzig at the weekend - starts at right-back. Leipzig striker Timo Werner - the top scorer of the Flick era - is flanked by Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane.
Werner scored two of five Germany goals against Italy last time out, but it was a Hofmann strike that denied Hungary all three points when the nations met in Budapest on Matchday 3. Although the Magyars lost their next game to Italy, two wins over England put them top of Group A3, a point ahead of Germany. Szoboszlai is one of three Leipzig players in their squad. The 21-year-old playmaker - who's started all three of Leipzig's games since Marco Rose's appointment as head coach - is joined by goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and defender Willi Orban, but Freiburg winger Roland Sallai misses out with a fractured eye socket. Midfielder Andras Schäfer is involved, though, after playing his part for surprise Bundesliga table-toppers Union Berlin in recent weeks. He was among the goals as Hungary and Germany played out a 2-2 draw in the group stages of last summer's rescheduled UEFA 2020 Euros. The Magyars have recorded a handful of friendly wins over the four-time world champions down the years, but only one in competitive fare - at the 1954 FIFA World Cup. West Germany, though, got their revenge in the final.
