How to Effectively use Your Night Splint

It will be best to start wearing the night splint for a short period of time, perhaps only 1 hour the first night, then extending it gradually each night and week. Most splints are also adjustable, so you can alter the tension to suit. It may be that you need to start with it looser and make it tighter over time. The ideal target will be to wear it overnight or for around 4 to 5 hours at a time. This is the perfect time period for the plantar fascia tissue to extend and begin to heal!

Wedge Use & Adjustment

Where Does the Wedge Go?

Dorsi-Flexion Adjustment

When you receive your plantar fasciitis night splint you will find a foam wedge attached to toe area of the night splint's lightweight shell. The wedge can be adjusted or removed to increase or decrease the stretch of the calf and plantar fascia (dorsi-flexion).

Step 1 Lift up the fabric pad at the toe area of the boot.
Step 2 Slide the wedge underneath and affix to the Velcro on the wedge to the Velcro on the bottom of the boot.

Un-attach the dorsi-flexion straps and simultaneously pull to adjust the dorsi-flexion to the desired level. If pain is experienced with the night splint in the resting position, the wedge can be removed from under the toe for less dorsi-flexion.
